FEATURED WORK

I'm only now starting to grasp that in woodcut both text and image are essentially calligraphic gestures. For years, I tried to overcome woodcut's pictorial limitations by trying to be more "painterly," or by rendering complex objects in the hope clients would realize I was a pretty good draughtswoman.

By the time I cut this saying to honor our local Rabbi's retirement (and some of my women friends as well), I had realized that text itself is visually appealing, and that simple pictorial elements can suggest sky and sun with a rough charm unavailable to digital objects.

I'd welcome your comments on these ideas.
